Shockwave therapy (low intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy 'LI-ESWT') is a fast, non-invasive treatment that uses simple, acoustic waves to trigger healing and regeneration. In the past, shockwave treatments were most notably used by professional athletes, but today this treatment is being used by many people for a wide variety of conditions.
The acoustic waves used in shockwave therapy directly interact with tissue, stimulating tissue repair, pain relief, mobility improvement and cell growth.
Erectile Dysfunction
One of the most newsworthy applications of shockwave therapy is its use in treating erectile dysfunction (E.D.) with a high success rate. This treatment is especially desirable to many men because it is fast, has relatively little discomfort, is non-invasive and does not involve drugs. There are an increasing number of reports stating the effectiveness of shockwave therapy for ED. A 2013 study published in the journal Therapeutic Advances in Urology stated: 'The results of our studies, which also included a double-blind randomized control trial, confirm that LI-ESWT (shockwave therapy) generates a significant clinical improvement of erectile function and a significant improvement in penile hemodynamics without any adverse effects."
